Evaluation of the Erosive Effect of Pediatric Liquid Medicinal Syrups on Primary and Permanent Enamel

Purpose: To evaluate the erosive effect of pediatric liquid medicinal syrups on primary and permanent enamel. Materials methods: Eighty teeth were equally divided into eight subgroups (n=10), according to immersion solutions: Depakine, Ventolin, Sansovit, Artificial saliva. The cycles drugs conducted under a 1-min agitation three times daily for 28 days. Enamel microhardness measurements taken place at 0,7,14,21, pH, titratable acidity, buffering capacity, viscosity solutions evaluated. A Scanning electron microscopy statistical analysis enamel assessed. Results: All tested groups had proven produce significant demineralization after days exposure. At baseline, showed higher mean values than teeth. Generally with all drugs, more decrease in but without significance. group (028days), highest was recorded Sansovit group, then followed by Depakine change between while Ventolin drugs. Kruskall Wallis test revealed difference control both substrates. Conclusion: This study that medicines used could erode even though pH above critical if it high sugar content viscosity.
